The Competitive Skating Centre of Strathroy Programs

Our "Competitive" Skating Program
The "Competitive" skating program at CSCS is a very intense figure skating program designed for the serious competitive figure skater. The level of skaters currently participating in the program range from the pre-juvenile sectional level all the way up to, and including, international senior competitors in both singles and pairs disciplines.
Our program is a year round commitment. The season begins in early May and runs through to early April. Following the conclusion of the annual ice show, the skaters are then scheduled to have an active rest period, where they are expected to maintain their fitness level throughout. The program is designed to correspond with the competitive skating season.
Each skater dedicates approximately 25-30 hours a week to the sport at the training facility, with additional training on their own where it is needed. The sessions are split between an on ice component and an off ice component. The amount of time spent on each portion is determined by the season in which we are in. The on ice component is based on both group instruction and individual instruction.
CSCS does all stroking sessions as well as all Spring school technical lessons, for all levels, in group format. In Summer, and Winter the technical lessons are generally taught individually. The off ice portion of the program is generally taught in group format with the program emphasizing on conditioning classes, visualization classes, flexibility classes, warm up classes, technique classes, and many others which are determined by the strengths and weaknesses of the skaters in the school.
CSCS specializes in singles and pair skating. In 2008, 65% of the schools skaters qualified for a Canadian Championship. Anyone interested in participating in this program must first have a formal meeting with Scott Rachuk to evaluate and explain the program requirements. Please use the contact information on the website to set up a meeting time.

Our "Pre-Competitive Figure Skating" Program
The "Pre-Competitive Figure Skating" program is one that is designed to teach you how to figure skate, beginning with sound basic skating skills which will evolve into figure skating moves. There are no age limits to begin or end, just a desire to be a part of the sport of figure skating.
We realize at CSCS that not everyone wants to be a champion figure skater, as there are other aspects of figure skating besides competition, such as the desire to learn. This program will enable an individual who wants skating to be a part of their life, to get a sound start on their road to a figure skating career.
All skaters in the program will be taught in group lesson format by a certified professional coach, with minimal free time. Those skaters that excel or show a keen interest in competitive figure skating may move on to the competitive program while anyone with the enthusiasm to keep training in this program will be encouraged to continue.
Currently the youngest skater is 5 years old while the oldest participant is 16 years old. All the skaters are learning good solid basics and advancing at their own pace while participating in the same exercises.
The Fall Program starts September 6th, 2011 and is running until the end of March. The classes run in the mornings from 7:30 am-8:20 am at the Gemini Sportsplex on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 4:00-5:30 on Monday and Thursday nights at the Gemini Sportsplex until September 26th. After September 26th the location will change over to the West Middlesex Memorial Centre for the afternoons only.
*NEW THIS FALL IS OUR CANSKATE PROGRAM
Skate Canada and the
Western Ontario Section have granted CSCS
an opportunity to run their signature learn
to skate program “CanSkate” this year for
the very first time. The coaches and
skaters of the centre are excited to be
running this program. Your children will
be coached by Canadian National Team
coaches and athletes, who will build the
proper basics to succeed in any of the ice
sports. The coaches and athletes of CSCS
have travelled the county and the world
competing and performing the sport of
figure skating, and will use that experience
and knowledge to create the best learn to
skate environment available to the public.
Our new canskate program can be found on our canskate page and the brochure and times can also be found and printed out from the canskate page link.
Anyone interested in any of these programs is encouraged to contact Scott Rachuk by email or use the contact information on this website.
